Hi Y'all,
Pop's went
next door to return a hammer he borrowed last week. He's been
gone for several hours so I'm sure he's off shopping somewhere and I
thought I'd take this time to talk to you about
collecting. I do tease Pop a lot about dragging home
truckloads of sports cards and sports figures in flats, boxes, cases
and crates. He has also shown up with old gardening
tools, books, plaques, bike parts, old LP's, wall
hangings, pictures and other such precious items-- but if you could
see the big smile on his face and that little dance he does when he
pulls out an "unexpected insert" or a "Rookie Card" he's been
looking for. . . well, its ALMOST worthwhile. You
know --now that I think about it---that was our hammer he
took next door!
Somebody
explain it to me. Why do people collect? Everytime Pop
brings home another item or hundred for his collection he
says " They didn't have this when I was a little boy." I've
concluded that Pop is either an alien- raised on a far
away planet - -- or he was born in the year "zero" --because
they didn't have nothin'.
I have to
admit that Pop is quite the man. He loves talking with other
collector's and spreading his pearls of wisdom, (he calls them
pearls--I have called them a few other things over the
decades).
Well, if you
happen to see PoP, please, give him half a sandwich (he hasn't had
any lunch) and send him home. It time for his
medication.
Thanks,
Momma'
